🗣️ AAC App — Privacy Policy

Overview

The AAC App ("we", "our", or "the app") is a communication aid designed to help nonverbal and minimally verbal children with autism express themselves through picture symbols and text-to-speech.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect any of the following:

• Names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information
• Location data
• Voice recordings or microphone data
• Camera or photo library data (unless you explicitly add a custom symbol photo)
• Usage analytics or crash reports
• Device identifiers

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following data locally on your device only, using Android's standard SharedPreferences storage:

• Your custom symbol board configuration (symbols, folders, order)
• Your selected text-to-speech voice preference
• Any custom symbol images you add from your device's gallery

This data never leaves your device. It is not uploaded to any server, shared with any third party, or accessible to us in any way.

Internet Access

The AAC App does not require an internet connection and does not make any network requests. The app works fully offline.

Text-to-Speech

The app uses Android's built-in Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine to speak symbols and sentences aloud. TTS processing happens entirely on-device. No audio or text is sent to external servers.

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

This app is designed for use by children, under the supervision of a parent, caregiver, or therapist. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations:

• We do not knowingly collect any information from children
• We do not have accounts, registration, or sign-in of any kind
• No data is shared with third parties for any purpose
• Parental controls (caregiver lock) are built into the app to prevent accidental changes to the communication board

Third-Party Services

The AAC App does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs. There are no ads of any kind.

Permissions

The app may request the following Android permissions:

• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_MEDIA_IMAGES — only if you choose to add a custom photo as a symbol image. Not requested by default.

No other permissions are requested or required.

Data Security

Because all data is stored locally on your device and no data is transmitted, your information is protected by your device's own security (screen lock, encryption, etc.).

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this privacy policy, the new version will be posted at this URL. We encourage you to review it periodically. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
